Australia's recovery from the recent economic downturn has been most evident at the big end of town with new share market listings and renewed takeover activity.

Incumbent Democrats Marie G. Howells and Patrick F. McKenna Jr. will face Republicans Joseph Healy Jr. and Louis Ricciuti Jr. in the race for two 1st Ward council seats Nov. 3.
Howells, a resident of Darby for more than 15 years, has served on borough council for the past five years.
She said she is running "to keep up the work I've been doing the past few years."

Jerry Dorfman, who serves on various town committees, and veterans Joseph Healy and Carol Olmstead were re-elected.
But town residents were also asked to vote on two nonbinding referendums to amend the Town Charter.

It's official -- the majority of town voters would like to see Bethany continue down its current path.
Incumbents Joseph Healy and Carol Olmstead, along with former council member Jerry Dorfman were elected to council last week.
Residents said they supported those candidates because they want to keep Bethany how it is.

The Australian grain industry has a strong future with prices improving and global demand expected to rise, according to Federal Agriculture Minister Tony Burke.
Speaking at the 2009 Australian Grains Industry Conference last month, Mr Burke told the 700 grain traders, growers and industry representatives present that the fundamentals for the industry were sound.

Rumours from Dublin suggest that the budget cuts that FF are pushing, will lead the Greens to ditch the coalition government.
It is hoped that by bringing the government down the Greens will get some credit from Irish voters long sick of suffering under the people often described as the 'porketeriat' because of their love of pork flavoured scratchings pushed their way by property developers.
